Here's another collection of conbadges. Now that I'm all caught up on older badges these and future images will represent badges done at a specific convention -these are from Anthrocon 2008.

Interesting notes on these: "Blaine" had a terrific piece of reference art drawn in a house-animation-style and that was a great change of pace from the usual style I employ. "Ecco" was a neat opportunity for me to think back on the various girls I've known who had a propensity for wearing pseudo hippie 1960's attire. Dig those tinted glasses! Lastly is "Dusty Waber" who had the terrific idea of getting a badge along with his friends all in the Buddy Christ pose. I knew enough about Buddy Christ to do the drawing but I wanted to double check on the accuracy of the image and so I enlisted some photographic help in getting the post right... here's my reference image... :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/brian_reynolds/2626684264/

I love my Ecco badge! You did a great job. Everyone I showed it to asked who drew it--I was happy to see everyone else liked it as much as I did.

In fact, I'm taking her to every convention I go to in the future, if I can help it. She's my favorite one.

Nice style, that! Next AC I'm going to have to have more art done -- I'm still holding myself back. What exactly is "house animation style"? Can't find a reference and it sounds like something I could some day find useful!

Brian Reynolds is a Compagnon.

I'm very glad that you liked the badge so much, thank you!

There are about five consisten art styles that are regularly used in animated productions: 1) Classic design (Snow White and Looney Tunes, etc.) which give a full description of the character's 3D volume. 2) Limited design (Flintstone, UPA, etc.) where depth isn't so important and designs were influenced by economical reuse of design elements. 3) Action-Adventure (Superfriends, GIJoe, etc.) where the designs are inspired from comic book origins and toy manufactures. 4) Japanese Animation (Voltron, Macross, etc.) which is similar to the adventure category but with design ethics that are consistent enough to merit a separate category. 5) Art House (The Simpsons, Beavis & Butthead, Rugrats, etc.) Alternative, non-traditional design ethics, often born of the styles of underground comic book artists. In many cases "House style" showcases designs which completely upend the traditional look and proportions of the classical animation style.

Excellent response! Thanks!

I almost concluded that after I slept on it and reevaluated the sentence, but would have gone too far in the direction opposite from my original overly specific assumptions. I've actually known Blaine for a while, but our mutual online hangouts have all become defunct over the years and though he's always wanted to meet up with me and visa versa, we didn't realize we were BOTH at the 'con until after we were both back home and he finally signed up for LiveJournal under pressure from a critter he met who just happens to be on my friends list. Maybe if he'd spent less time partying in the rooms and more time partying at the bar like I was. silly critter... ;-)
