I've recently started exploring the possibilities with Open Canvas and the ease of use combined with the ability to quickly color in my rough sketches so that they're a close approximation of a finished color presentation is astoundingly cool. This is just a quick play with some different penguin designs.

For Christmas 2007 I wanted to share the happiness I felt from the greatest gift I've received in my life; the birth of my daughter, Samantha. I cribbed the text for this card from another of my favorite Christmas carols "A Baby Just Like You" that John Denver wrote conveying the wishes and blessings he desired for his son. As a side note, I credit Erika Rosengarten for coming up with the enjoyable name "Kit-Cat" for the little avatar of Samantha. :)

I've worked in Flash for years and years but my current job makes heavy use of Illustrator and so I've been doing what I can to bridge the gap between the two programs and become more adept at the new tricks I can pull off.

This was a character design study for class. The original pencil drawing was photocopied several times and different watercolor treatments were done to find out what was preferable. The design itself was intended to be an aggressive looking elemental character that was essentially a living mountain.

Something I've tried to do for the past couple years is put together a Christmas card of sorts for friends who read my livejournal blog. This was the piece for 2005 and reflected my happiness at the (admittedly sparse) snowfall that had accompanied the season that year in Seattle.

One of the last things I was working on at Knowledge Adventure before the company laid off the 2D animation group. This was a character design revamp for the Jumpstart characters to get them more "hip and edgy". Yeah. Whatever that means at the moment. Nothing came of this, obviously.

Invader Zim is still my favorite animated cartoon ever but in 2002 I was just getting to see all the shows available for the first time and I really wanted to get a good wallpaper image of the primary Irken logo shown during the opening titles. I checked around but couldn't find any that were of a decent quality so I went and recreated it on my own.

This was a character design exploration for a werewolf-ish creature. I say "ish" because I never really gave much thought to whether this would actually be a shape changer. The intent was to make the design very strong and intimidating without resorting to 'scare' design points. **edit** Oops, I forgot what this picture was all about. Yep, it's a werewolf. Totally, and completely 100%. Someday when the rest of this project sees the light there will be more of an explanation.
